About company

Our investors take a low-volume, high-conviction approach—because we commit unreasonable resources to create unfair advantages. The differentiator, unheard of in early stage VC, is Primary’s Impact team: Full-time, seasoned executives working alongside founders to supercharge growth and secure quality hires, early customers, and downstream investors. Cofounders Brad Svrluga and Ben Sun have won recognition from Forbes' Midas List and Insider's Seed 100.

With nearly $1 billion in assets under management, this team spends $4.5 million annually on operational talent salaries, embeds with companies for 2,500 hours of high-intensity fractional leadership work, conducts 1,000 candidate interviews, maintains a pool of 1,000+ active job seekers, and hosts 250 events large and small for the NYC tech community.

About the role

We’re looking for a Community Operations Manager to join Primary’s Impact team to oversee and scale the firm’s growing talent network. We at Primary value community building–both internally for our portfolio and externally for our networks of founders and operators.

This position will report to the VP, People and Networks and be responsible for the growth strategy, programs, experience, and self-service products associated with the talent network. As we continue to scale our communities and programs, we’re excited to continue connecting talent with opportunities in the portfolio.

This role will lead the following communities:

  • Primary’s Mastermind Network–A community of 2K+ mid-to-senior startup operators across GTM, Operations, Product, and Engineering in the startup ecosystem
  • Primary’s Talent Hub–Vetted, active talent for the open roles in the portfolio and our embedded recruiting teams
  • Primary’s Founders initiative–Programs for the future founders in the specialization lanes that we invest in

This role requires you to be very strategic and creative in how you think about programs that scale across personas, functions, and industry specializations. The ideal candidate is a self-starting strategic thinker who values spending most of their days building relationships and programs.

About You:

  • Passionate program/community builder–you have built programs at scale for a large network and are a systems thinker
  • Product mindset–you create and deliver simple processes, optimized for scale and user experience
  • Well-networked/plugged into the NYC tech ecosystem–you understand the personas of NYC operators and what gets them excited
  • Detail-oriented and exceptionally organized–you have a track record of leading and balancing complex projects from idea to execution
  • Hustler with high output and execution–make do with few resources and a excitement to build 0-1 while maintaining the vision and creativity required to take it from 1-1000
  • No task is too small for you. You’re not afraid to roll up your sleeves and help out where needed across the firm; you’re scrappy and known to identify efficiency opportunities in work streams
  • Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills
  • Full-time in NYC. You must be able to work out of the Primary office 3 days/week.

Ideal Experience:

  • 5+ years of work experience with at least one year in community building
  • Background in management consulting, strategy/operations at a startup, or Impact adjacent roles at a VC
  • Obsessed with and have a track record of cultivating relationships and building communities
