About company

Virgil is a technology-enabled law firm serving venture-backed (or backable) startups across the United States. Through an affiliated entity, we combine general corporate legal services with bookkeeping, compliance, people ops, and tax to form a one-stop shop for cutting through the red tape.

Our clients outsource their back-office to us so that they can focus on what they do best: building.

We founded Virgil upon 3 core hypotheses:

  1. AI will transform the practice of law. We believe in a ground-up approach, working side-by-side along the brightest minds in AI to build tools that enhance the provision of professional services.
  2. The large firms leave a needs gap. Startups have many day-to-day legal needs that must be handled properly but can't justify the high hourly rates of biglaw firms.
  3. Law firms can (and should) do more. Legal, bookkeeping, tax, compliance, and people ops fall into the bucket of "things startups don't want to deal with." By combining these services we unlock efficiency due to information-sharing and remove the need to manage multiple service providers.

Virgil was named after Dante's guide through hell and purgatory on his way to paradise in the Divine Comedy. It's our hyperbolic way of saying we'll be with clients every step of the way through the most hellacious parts of scaling their startup.
