Across construction and other commercial markets, technology is available but fundamentally underutilized, despite the potential for improving loss outcomes and stopping this crisis.

Shepherd is looking for a Head of Builder’s Risk who will report to the Chief Insurance Officer and be responsible for developing and implementing Shepherd’s Builder’s Risk program. Responsibilities will include:

• Creating the Builder’s Risk product line for project-specific and contractor master programs, which includes the development of underwriting guidelines, portfolio management strategies, distribution plans, applicable forms and underwriting proformas.
• Working with our Actuarial and Engineering & Product Development teams in the development and maintenance of the Builder’s Risk pricing models.
• Procuring capacity and reinsurance for the launch and continuity of the program, as needed.
• Supporting the acquisition of new business and developing renewal account strategies.
• Collaborating with the Shepherd Underwriting, Engineering and Customer Experience teams to execute on Industry Practice strategies.

About You

We’re looking for an experienced Builder’s Risk professional who is passionate about the future of construction and a willingness to embrace new ideas.

You are a dream candidate if…

• You have at least 7 years of US Builder’s Risk underwriting experience, including experience on various property and project-specific placement types as well as contractor master programs.
• You are knowledgeable in effective risk engineering and loss mitigation techniques.
• You are familiar with emerging technologies as strategic tools that will enhance the Builder’s Risk underwriting and engineering process.
• You are well-versed in Builder’s Risk pricing models, CAT modeling, policy language and claims administration.
• You are capable of writing guidelines, underwriting advisories and can manage a divisional P&L.
