About the role

Full-Stack, Design Developer

Location: San Francisco, CA (Live-in optional)
Start: Immediate trial (1 week), followed by full-time offer

About Us

The Residency is building the future of higher education. We believe the next Harvard won’t look like a school — it’ll look like a vibrant network of builders, inventors, and problem-solvers creating the future together. Our alumni have raised millions, built humanoids, launched rockets, and pioneered ideas that didn't exist until they made them real.

We’re backed by some of the most interesting people in tech: Sam Altman is an advisor. We’ve hosted fireside chats with folks like Kevin Hartz (founder of Eventbrite), Cory Levy (Z Fellows), and the founder of Supabase.

You’ll be working in San Francisco, surrounded by the kinds of people you used to read about — now they’re your peers.

The Role

We’re hiring a Full-Stack, Design Developer to help us build a suite of AI-first tools that will change how people learn, build, and collaborate. This is a highly autonomous, high-context role for someone who can own product from idea → design → implementation.

You’ll be working on:

  • AI Super Connector – experiment with matchmaking logic, learning algorithms, and social graphs

  • AI Assistant for Team & Resident Management – help people stay on track and grow faster

  • AI Interviewer – streamline and enhance our application funnel using LLMs

  • Plus many more small, weird, experimental tools — we’re a lab for new ideas

We move fast and ship often. You'll be writing real code, used by real people, within days. This isn’t an agency gig or a corporate role. It’s messy. It’s fun. And it actually matters.

You'll be working closely with founder of The Residency, Nick Linck to design and iterate on these products. Nick was formally and AI research scientist at IBM Research.

You’re a Fit If:

  • You’re full stack and comfortable building end-to-end (we mostly use React, Supabase, Python, etc.)

  • You think deeply about user experience — and sweat the details to make things delightful

  • You like autonomy — nobody’s going to hand you a spec doc

  • You’re comfortable in fast-moving, experimental environments

  • You want to work with ambitious, creative people who actually care about what they’re doing

  • You are open to feedback and love to learn!

  • You think a college is broken and we need to support talent in new ways.

Perks:

  • Live and work in San Francisco, in a beautiful house with other amazing people

  • Become part of the early team shaping a movement

  • Build a portfolio of ambitious projects you actually care about

  • Tap into a world-class network of founders, investors, and domain experts

  • Help us grow something that could be bigger than Harvard

How It Works

  • Week-long trial: Paid, low-commitment, high-context

  • If it’s a fit, we offer you a full-time role with real equity, real ownership, and a real mission
