About company

Scheduling infrastructure for absolutely everyone.

About the role

At Cal.com/platform, we're building the future of scheduling infrastructure. Our developer-focused product, Cal.com/platform, includes tools like Cal.com Atoms and the Cal.com/platform API, which allow anyone to build custom scheduling solutions, like a marketplace to find your closest doctor.

Cal.com today has two products: Cal.com (Core: Teams, Organizations) and Cal.com/platform. You are applying for Cal.com/platform.

At Cal.com, Inc. we define a "platform" as a service offering, where unlike with "Core", users meet other users. Our customer is an engineer who builds a marketplace like Airbnb where Travelers meet Renters, or an Uber where Drivers meet Passengers or a doctor marketplace where Doctors meet Patients.

This is very different to the "Cal.com Core" where a sales team from the same company signs up for a "Teams plan" and has calls with their potential customers.

A Platform admin does not necessarily know their "managed users". Cal.com Platform is the "Stripe Connect" for scheduling.

Cal.com, Inc.

We're a startup with a small, tight-knit team, and we're looking for someone to help grow our Cal.com/platform engineering team and drive our product forward.

Role Overview:

We are looking for a Head of Platform to lead our cal.com/platform team. This is an engineering-heavy role, and you’ll be working closely with your small team of 4 engineers. You'll be involved in engineering discussions, likely writing code yourself, and managing the feature backlog. You’ll also communicate directly with customers and may even take part in sales calls. This is a generalist engineering role that requires both strong technical skills and the ability to work across different areas of the business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the platform engineering team, helping them grow, develop, and stay aligned with the company’s goals.

  • Oversee and manage the feature backlog, ensuring we are focused on delivering valuable features for customers.

  • Be hands-on with coding, architecture, and solving technical challenges.

  • Engage with customers to gather feedback, understand their needs, and ensure our product meets their expectations.

  • Participate in sales calls to understand the needs of potential customers and help shape the product.

  • Collaborate closely with the cofounders and leadership team to define the direction of the product and company.

  • Help scale the engineering team, both in terms of hiring and building the team culture.

  • Drive the engineering process and ensure that projects are delivered on time and meet high-quality standards.

Qualifications:

  • You have contributed to our open source repository.

  • Strong technical background with experience in building scalable platforms and APIs.

  • Solid coding skills and hands-on experience with the technology stack.

  • Previous experience leading an engineering team or working in a leadership role in a small team.

  • Comfortable with product management, prioritizing feature development, and managing a product backlog.

  • Good communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally with different teams.

  • Ability to work directly with customers, understanding their needs, and providing technical solutions.

  • A generalist mindset with the ability to adapt to various challenges as the company grows.

Why Join Us:

  • You’ll play a key role in shaping the future of scheduling technology.

  • You’ll work closely with the cofounders and have a direct impact on the company’s strategy and growth.

  • We value both technical excellence and great collaboration – you'll get to make decisions and help grow the engineering team.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a passion for building platforms, solving problems, and working in a startup environment. If you're a strong technical leader and enjoy working across engineering and product, we'd love to hear from you!
