About company

Don’t let the quirky name fool you! We’re on a mission to radically transform the data analyst user experience. We think we can empower and delight analysts using a novel cloud architecture built on top of DuckDB, an open source foundation with a vibrant community. We’re rapidly driving towards general availability and need your help to create many “aha moments” for our users.

Our team is a diverse mix of passionate, collaborative and empathetic data industry veterans from Google, Amazon, Meta, Snowflake, SingleStore, Databricks, and the like.

About the role

As the Product Manager for Databases, you hold the keys to the most technical aspects of MotherDuck, such as the SQL dialect, IAM, git-style development, and WASM-based data applications. You define a strategy to disrupt the status quo - an opportunity made possible by our unique DuckDB-based architecture. You are passionate about landing powerful new user experiences. You welcome the unknown, and you are driven by the smiles and excitement on customers’ faces.

Core Responsibilities

  • Ship amazing user experiences.
  • Ethically, do whatever it takes to get customers to love your product.
  • Craft and communicate a bold and innovative strategy and roadmap.
  • Help define core aspects of MotherDuck, such as the SQL dialect, authentication, and sharing.
  • With a large degree of autonomy, take risks and pursue big product bets, such as WASM-driven data applications.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to close decision-space and commit to execution.
  • Exercise impeccable product judgment.
  • Take amorphous ideas and turn them into clear requirements.
  • Write clear, persuasive and insightful documents that are a model for your teammates.
  • Show up by example, do what needs to be done even if it isn’t in the job description.

What we’re looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in product management, engineering management, or a related field
  • Significant, hands-on experience in databases, analytics, or technical infrastructure in the cloud.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Expert at independently driving execution through collaboration and without direct authority.
  • Sense of fun, ability to not take yourself too seriously.
